Economic Event: The participation of members of the Iraqi Business Council in the Jordanian – Iraqi Forum

Upon an invitation extended by the President of Amman Chamber of Industry, a delegation of IBC members comprising of; IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, IBC Board members; Engineer Turkey Al-Qaissi, Mr. Khalil Al-bunniya, Mr. Muhammad Jawad Al-Jubouri, and IBC General Assembly members; Mr. Muhammad Al- Amili, Mr. Aqeel Al-Hadi and IBC guest Mr. Abdul Wadoud Al-Nesouli / President of the Iraqi – Lebanese Business Council and Director General of the Council in the Jordanian – Iraqi Forum, which was held on Saturday February 23rd 2019 at the offices of Amman Chamber of Industry located in the 2nd Circle.

The meeting was attended by the Iraqi Minister of Industry & Minerals / President of the joint Iraqi – Jordanian Commission Dr. Saleh Abdullah Al-Jubouri and the accompanying delegation comprising of the Director General of Investment Department at the Ministry, Director General of the Industrial Development, President of the Iraqi Federation of Industry and representatives of the public and private Industries sectors and the Chambers of Trade and Industries, the Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade & Supply Dr. Tariq Al-Hamouri, President of Amman Chamber of Industry Mr. Fathi Al-Jegheiber, the Jordanian Ambassador to Iraq Dr. Muntasir Al-Aqleh and President of the Federation of Arab Businessmen.  During the meeting, several important issues were discussed.

Mr. Saad Naji launched during the Forum an initiative to establish a joint exhibition for Iraqi and Jordanian Industries aimed at introducing Iraqi industrial industries wishing to enter the Jordanian markets and likewise for the Jordanian industrial industries.

In response to an invitation extended by the Director General of Investment Department of the Iraqi Ministry of Industry on the available investment opportunities, Mr. Khalil Al-Bunniya suggested to provide IBC of details of the (180) investment opportunities available in the companies affiliated to the Iraqi Ministry of Industry.

Mr. Ahmad Al-Amili further proposed to the Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade that visa applications for the Iraqi truck drivers are handled and submitted by the transport companies rather than the industrialists themselves.

The one who carried out the mission of founding is an elite of Iraqi businessmen of recognized competence and abilities. and since the Council’s inception in late 2006, members have worked towards efforts to support Iraqi investments in Jordan.

The Cypriot Ambassador to Jordan & Iraq’s Non-Resident Ambassador Visits IBC and Meets with Iraqi Business Council Members

The Cypriot Ambassador to Jordan and Iraq’s Non-Resident Ambassador Dr. Andreas Kozobis visited on Monday February 18th 2019 IBC offices and met with IBC members; Board member Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi and IBC members Mr. Fakhri Rishan, Engineer Zaid Al-Safi, Mr. Usama Al-Safi, Mr. Muhammad Shanshal, Engineer Rula Al-Qaissi and IBC CEO.

At the beginning of the meeting, IBC Board member Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi welcomed the Cypriot Ambassador and thanked him for meeting IBC members, then IBC CEO presented a short review on IBC activities and its achievements in the economic, cultural, humanitarian and academic fields, in addition to the economic cooperation and facilities extended by various Embassies in Jordan to IBC members especially the issue of visas.

For his part, the Cypriot Ambassador affirmed that his visit to IBC was to benefit from the services provided by IBC, describing the economy as the backbone for cooperation between Iraq and Cyprus, stressing his desire to organize a meeting for IBC members to meet with the Cypriot Foreign Minister during his coming visit to Amman.

The two sides also discussed the need to build relationships and partnerships with the private sector in Iraq and Cyprus especially in the fields of oil and gas and cooperation in scientific and academic fields.

At the end of the meeting, the Cypriot Ambassador promised to work on achieving the issues discussed during the meeting including the signing of a memorandum of understanding between IBC and the organizations concerned with economic aspects, organizing a visit for IBC delegation to meet with officials in Cyprus and Cypriot businessmen and providing special facilities to IBC members to be granted multiple entry visas to Cyprus within a short period of time.

At the end of the meeting and on behalf of IBC members, Engineer Turkey Al-Qaissi presented IBC Icon (the Tree of Life) to the Cypriot Ambassador.

Visit of Iraqi Business Council Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary General To the Greek Embassy in Jordan and Meeting with the Greek Ambassador

In reply to a personal invitation extended by the Greek Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Vasilyos Bournovos, IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi, Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji and IBC CEO visited the Greek Ambassador to Jordan on Wednesday February 13th 2019 at his offices.

During the meeting, the economic developments in Iraq were discussed especially the agreement signed by the Iraqi government with the Jordanian government in the energy, transport, trade and industry sectors.

Dr. Saedi spoke about details of his recent visit to Baghdad and his participation, as speaker, regarding investment in business and energy at Rafidain Forum 2019, which witnessed participation of a large number of Ministers, officials, members of diplomatic corps and major consultancy firms.

Dr. Saedi reviewed a number of solutions and suggestions presented by the Iraqi government amongst which; allowing the private sector to invest in the electricity sector, development of the education sector, along with other proposals to develop the investment environment in Iraq.

For his part, the Greek Ambassador stressed the significant role of women and youth in building the country, and expressed his readiness to cooperate and approach the Greek government to establish a cultural exchange program between the Greek and Iraqi students within IBC’s cultural and academic programs.

This meeting comes as part of the regular meetings held with the Greek Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Vasilyos Bournovos to follow up the joint cooperation with IBC and facilities extended by the Greek Embassy relating to entry visas to IBC members and their families.

At the end of the meeting the two sides exchanged thanks for organizing this meeting.

Economic Event: Visit of IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General and IBC CEO to Amman Chamber of Industry Head Office

IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji and IBC CEO visited on Thursday February 7th 2019 the head office of Amman Chamber of industry – Jabal Amman / 2nd Circle.
  During the visit Mr. Saad Naji met with the President of Amman Chamber of industry Mr. Fathi Al-Jeghbeer and a number of the Chamber’s Board of Directors; Mr. Mousa Al-Sakit / the Chamber’s Vice President, Mr. Mazin Tantash, Dr. Mahir Al-Mahrouk / the Chamber’s CEO and Mr. Issaq Arabiyat / Acting for CEO.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Saad Naji extended congratulations on behalf of IBC President and Board members to the Chamber’s newly elected President and Board of Directors and congratulated them on the confidence granted to them by the General Assembly.
A number of important points were also discussed:
1- Mr. Saad Naji asked Mr. Al-Jeghbeer about the strategy that will be adopted by the Chamber to assure the Iraqi private sector concerning the fears generated at the signing of the Iraqi – Jordanian Agreement.
Mr. Al-Jeghbeer replied that the Agreement represents only 1 of 50 of Iraq’s imports, and that the larger number of the terms of the Agreement cover agricultural products and the materials that were not exported to Iraq previously. In this regard, Mr. Saad Naji proposed that the Chamber publishes the figures of Iraq’s imports of the covered commodities to update the Iraqi private sector.
2- Mr. Saad Naji inquired on the issue of the Iraqi – Jordanian Business Council whose Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Iraq.
Mr. Al-Jeghbeer replied that the MOU was part of the agenda of the visit and that the Chamber was not aware of this matter in advance, and that the signed memorandum was a memorandum of intent and not a memorandum of notice.
  In this respect, Mr. Al-Jeghbeer requested that the Council be an advisory body to request advice when dealing with any Iraqi parties.
3- Mr. Saad Naji requested the launching of an exhibition for Iraqi – Jordanian products in cooperation with the Chamber to introduce, through its opening session, the Jordanian products by the Industry Chamber and the competent authorities, and on the Iraqi side, the parties concerned shall be invited to introduce the Iraqi product.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides exchanged thanks on organizing his meeting, stressing the importance of cooperation, continuous communication and exchange of visits.

Economic Event: Chairman of the Iraqi Business Council Dr. Majid Saedi participates as a speaker in the sessions of the Rafidain Forum – Baghdad 2019

IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi participated in the dialogue session on “Investing in Business and Energy : A Lifeline for the Iraqi Economy”, one of the sessions of Rafidain Forum – Baghdad 2019 held on February 4th and 5th 2019 at Al-Rasheed Hotel – Baghdad.

The following gentlemen took part in the Forum : Dr. Thamir Al-Ghadban / Deputy Iraqi Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister, Dr. Noori Al-Duleimi / Iraqi Minister of Planning, Dr. Luay Al-Khateeb / Iraqi Electricity Minister, Mr. Ali Al-Allaq / Iraqi Central Bank Governor and Dr. Torhan Al-Mufti / President of the Supreme Commission for Coordination between the Governorates.

The Forum was the first one of its kind to take place in Iraq presenting the files and issues that concern Iraq and the region and discussed them from Baghdad in the presence of local and international high-level political and academic figures from seventeen states and participation of the world leading strategic research and development institutions.

A number of IBC Board members and General Assembly members also participated in the Forum.  It is worth mentioning that IBC was the golden sponsor of Rafidain Forum – Baghdad 2019.

Iraqi Business Council Cultural Program (Ibdaa) Hosts the Signing Ceremony of Haitham Burda’s Full Works (Novella)

IBC Cultural Program (Ibdaa) hosted on Saturday February 2nd 2019 on Orfali Hall – Umm Utheina the signing ceremony of the Iraqi novelist Haitham Burda’s (Novella).

At the beginning of the ceremony writer Yarub Al-Salim presented a review on the writer and his literary works, after which novelist Haitham Burda talked about the novella, its structure, composition, characteristics, origin, history and what distinguishes it from the ordinary novel.

He pointed out names of the most prominent novelists who were known for writing the novella from its beginning until the present times and through the six centuries and so of its birth which gave them great fame, elaborating that one of the main reasons for awarding the Nobel Prize for Peace to prominent American novelist Ernest Hemmingway was his timeless short novel “The Old Man And The Sea”.

Writer Burda also talked about his experience of Novella writing through his novels “Room 213”, “Bodies and Their Shadows” and “The Spectrum” which included his full works.

Writer Burda concluded the ceremony by thanking IBC for sponsoring his “Novella”, and signed his book for the audience.

On IBC side, the ceremony was attended by IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, a number of the Cultural Committee members, writers, academics, satellite television channels, media, IBC CEO and staff.
