Visiting American USAID Organization Economic / Iraq Mission Delegation Holds Bilateral Meetings with IBC Members

The visiting USAID economic delegation that included a number of economic specialists in the USAID economic Section; Mr. Georges Fadhil, Ms. Ann Bernier and Ms. Rana Abbas held on January 28th – 29th, 2018 bilateral meetings with IBC members to identify the most important challenges that encounter the Iraqi private sector, the facilities provided by the Iraqi government to attract investors and the mechanism for business environment development for the purpose of issuing the USAID report on economic growth in Iraq, which the USAID would provide IBC with once issued.

During its visit, the delegation met with IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji who spoke of IBC participation in the work teams implementing the Iraqi private sector strategies (2014 – 2030) and the role of IBC as a consultant to a number of economic organizations including the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

IBC Board members; Mr. Turkey Al-Qaisi and Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz, IBC members; Mrs. Hadeel Hassan, representatives of IBC companies: Mr. Ibrahim Al-Safi, Mr. Usama Al-Safi (representatives of Al-Safi Group), Mr. Alaa Omar and Mr. Muhammad Al-Absi (representative of ABB) and IBC CEO participated in the meetings.

Meeting of the Delegation of the American Commercial Attaché in Jordan

A delegation of the American Attaché in Jordan consisting of the Commercial Advisor Mr. Farid Aziz, Economic Officer Ms. Carina Clein and the Economic Affairs Specialist Ms. Shaden Al-Majali met on Sunday January 28th, 2018 with IBC members at IBC Headquarters in Amman.

At the beginning of the meeting, IBC members provided an overview on their companies, specializations and the volume of investments of IBC members in Jordan and Iraq.

For his part, the Commercial Advisor Mr. Farid Aziz reviewed the services provided by the Commercial Consulate of the American Embassy in Jordan, the business environment in the United States of America and the free trade agreements concluded with a number of countries including Jordan.

Mr. Aziz then talked about the investment program (Select USA) that organizes annual summit to identify investment programs in the United States in which a large number of investors, organizations and American Federations specialized in investment take part.

It was agreed with the Economic Official Ms. Carina Clain to organize a meeting for IBC members, who wish to invest in the United States, with officials in the US Embassy Consular Section during the coming period to be introduced to the mechanism of application for obtainment of entry visas to the United States through investment.

The meeting included interventions by IBC members on the role of the American companies in the reconstruction of Iraq, their desire to establish partnerships and trade relations with their Iraqi counterparts and the upcoming economic event to support the reconstruction of Iraq scheduled to be held in Kuwait.  At the end of the meeting the two sides exchanged thanks for organizing the meeting.

IBC was provided with a profile on the services provided by the American Commercial Consulate and the investment program in the United States.

Tunisian Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Khalid Al-Siheini Grants 6-Month Multiple Entry Visas to Tunisia

Mr. Khalid Al-Siheini, Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Jordan, granted on Wednesday January 24th, 2018 six-month multiple entry visas to Tunisia to IBC members and their families during his visit to IBC headquarters and meeting with IBC members.

During the meeting, IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi reviewed the establishment of IBC and its significance as an economic, cultural and social organization and its role in enhancing ties of cooperation between Iraqi investors and the international business community.

Dr. Saedi also elaborated on the investments of IBC members in all sectors in Jordan, Iraq and other world countries including the Republic of Tunisia.

Dr. Saedi tackled the investment environment and economic situation in Iraq and the importance of holding the Kuwait Conference under the title “Invest in Iraq”, which will be attended by many international companies, and an opportunity to learn about many development and investment projects that will be announced during this Conference.

It is worth mentioning that a delegation comprising of IBC members will participate in the Conference.

Dr. Saedi lauded the interest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to promote its economic relationships with Iraq through establishing the Iraqi – Saudi Coordination Council.

For their part, the Tunisian Ambassador Mr. Al-Khalid Al-Siheili, Mr. Mehriz Al-Farshishi Deputy Head of Mission and Foreign Affairs Advisor and Mr. Atif Al-Gharyani the Commercial Attaché thanked IBC members for their warm reception.

The Tunisian Ambassador expressed the interest and keenness of the Tunisian government to communicate with the Iraqi investors in Jordan and open new horizons for economic cooperation.

The Ambassador further extended an invitation to IBC members to visit Tunisia and meet with officials in the Tunisian government and key economic institutes to acquaint themselves with the investment climate in Tunisia.

IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji discussed the issue of residence permits on the basis of real estate investment, stressing the necessity to activate the appropriate laws that enable investors and property owners in Tunisia obtain residence permits on basis of property ownership as it is done in other countries such as  Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

The meeting included interventions by IBC members concerning the volume of Iraqi investment in Tunisia and the obstacles facing a number of investors.

At the end of the meeting it was agreed that IBC members and their families start obtaining entry visas from the Tunisian Embassy, coordinate with IBC regarding organizing a visit by IBC delegation to Tunisia and provide IBC with a list of fairs and conferences scheduled to be held in Tunisia during the current year and exchange information on investment opportunities and trade delegations.

Dr. Majid Saedi presented the Tunisian Ambassador with IBC icon “The Tree of Life”.  On IBC side the meeting was attended by IBC Vice Chairman Mr. Nazar Awchi and Board members; Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz, Mr. Muhammad Jawad Al-Jubouri and Mrs. Wasan Al-Khafaji and IBC members; Mr. Ahmed Al-Amili, Mr. Aqeel Al-Hadi, Mr. Faris Kamal, Mr. Muhammad Shanshal, and businessman Mr. Raed Al-Rahmani and IBC CEO.

 

Secretary General of the Council of Ministers Discusses The Investment Climate With Presidents of Business Councils and Economic Federations

The Secretary General of the Ministerial Council Dr. Mahdi Al-Allaq discussed key recommendations with IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi and presidents of a number of financial and economic councils and federations, Iraqi businessmen and investors to provide an appropriate climate for investment.

Dr. Al-Allaq reviewed the recent arrangements concerning a conference on the reconstruction of Iraq scheduled to be held in Kuwait next month, stressing the enthusiasm to turn the conference into a major economic event attracting Iraqi and international companies, stressing the need to finalize the main recommendations paper which is drafted in accordance with the investment life cycle and its various stages in agreement with the World Bank.

During the meeting, the paper to be presented to the international investors during the forthcoming Reconstruction of Iraq Conference was discussed, whereas the participants agreed to present the amendments during Sunday and Monday of next week to consolidate all papers received from investors and the participating councils and federations and finalize them for onward presentation to the Council of Ministers within two weeks for voting purposes.

Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them, as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council was well-founded and blessed by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Accordingly, the approval of the competent Jordanian authorities was commended for launching the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan.

Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them, as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council was well-founded and blessed by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Accordingly, the approval of the competent Jordanian authorities was commended for launching the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan.

The one who carried out the mission of founding is an elite of Iraqi businessmen of recognized competence and abilities. and since the Council’s inception in late 2006, members have worked towards efforts to support Iraqi investments in Jordan. as well as coordination and cooperation with official entities, to find solutions and proposals to overcome obstacles and constraints facing investors s economic, investment and trade cooperation between Jordan and Iraq.
