The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council is based on the common desire generated by a number of elites. Global Principles for Empowerment of Women” Initiative

We are pleased to inform you that the Iraqi Business Council has joined the “Global Principles for Empowerment of Women” Initiative, which was launched by the UN Global Compact and the UN Commission for Women to assist the private sector to empower women economically and socially, build capacities, combat violence against women and promote equality between the two sexes at workplace.

We congratulate our IBC members on this achievement that embodies IBC goals in empowering women at all levels. Supporting them and developing their capabilities to reflect positively on work productivity.

This Initiative is regarded as a major means for companies progress and realization of sustainable development.

IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary-General Participates in the Private Sector Forum (United Business 2020)

At the invitation extended by the Assistant of the Secretary-General and Chief Executive Officer of the United Nations Global Compact, Mrs. Sanda Ogambo, IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General, Dr. Saad Naji, and the Director General of the Private Sector Forum (United Business 2020), held by the United Nations Global Compact in presence and via video communication technology in New York – USA, participated on September 19th-21st 2022 in the Private Sector Forum (United Business 2020).

The event brought together Heads of States and governments, CEOs, corporate sustainability experts, business leaders, Heads of UN Agencies and civil society organizations led by the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres, and the Assistant Secretary-General and CEO of the UN Global compact, Mrs. Sanda Ogambo.

The Private Sector Forum (United Business 2020)

The Private Sector Forum (United Business 2020) included a discussion on the assessment of the world state and addressing gaps as to progress and realization of business ambitions on the sustainable development goals.

The Forum sessions included a session on the renewable energy, financing mechanism for transition to renewable energy, the role of young professionals in stimulating innovation in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development and the role of business community in protecting the environment.

During his intervention in the Forum, Dr. Saad Naji talked about the importance of supporting the energy-poor countries, such as Iraq, whose lack of energy resulted from the mismanagement of resources, and Lebanon, which lacks resources to achieve energy sufficiency. Also, steps for financing economies to be fairer and more inclusive, were also discussed.

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan was one of the first organizations that joined the UN Global Compact and worked on applying and implementing the ten principles of the Agreement in all its procedures and adopted sustainable development and social responsibility.

Chairman of the Iraqi Business Council, Dr. Majid Sadi, IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary-General, Dr. Saad Naji, IBC Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz and a number of IBC members; Mr. Osama Al-Shemmari, Mr. Muhammad Shanshal and IBC Director General received on Tuesday September 20th 2022 at IBC offices the Chairman of the Jordanian Businessmen Association, MP Hamdi Al-Tabbaa, a number of the Association’s Board members and Board of Trustees, General Assembly and the Association’s Director General, Mr. Tariq Hijazi, to sign a memorandum of understanding aiming at supporting joint cooperation between the two sides and strengthening joint cooperation to serve and expand horizons of economic relations between the Jordanian and Iraqi business community.

During the meeting

Mr. Al-Tabbaa expressed his happiness with this cooperation. He reviewed role of the Jordanian Businessmen Association in enhancing Jordan’s economic and investment relations with various brotherly Arab and friendly foreign states, promoting the advantages, incentives and investment opportunities that Jordan enjoys through joint business council to which the Association is associated.

On the other hand

Dr. Sadi pointed out that Jordan plays a major role in receiving investors from the Arab world. ِAs Jordan is a symbol of tolerance and coexistence. Streesed that the priority in Iraqi imports is for Jordan, if it achieves competition in terms of price and quality. He also reviewed a number of projects that the government intends to announce as investment opportunities in Iraq. Especially in the fields of telecommunications, real estate development and reconstruction.

Mr. Al-Tabbaa pointed out the importance of working on exploring prospects for investment opportunities especially in the promising economic sectors of common interest, pointing out that the Iraqi market is one of the important markets for Jordan.

Mr. Al-Tabbaa also pointed out that Jordan enjoys several attractive investment advantages that provide investors with a safe environment for investment with multiplicity of free trade agreements and availability of many free and development zones.

Dr. Sadi stressed that the MOU will strengthen cooperation and exchange of know-how in various economic fields, pointing out the role of the Iraqi Business Council in developing Iraqi investments in many economic sectors and the interest of the Iraqi side to invest in Jordan and the Arab world in general, expressing his happiness at the signing of the agreement, especially with the existence of diverse opportunities on the trade and investment levels that can be exploited in developing the Jordanian – Iraqi relations.

The agreements aims

The agreements also aims at boosting cooperation between the two sides in holding relevant activates, conferences and forums that serve to boost the development of economic relations between members of both sides, enhance means of communications, provision of possible facilities in this respect, encourage members of both sides to participate in such activities, as well as cooperation to encourage and facilitate the exchange of know-how and information available to both sides on the opportunities of developing various economic sectors, holding strategic partnerships on the local, Arab and regional levels.

The agreement also aims to boost joint cooperation as to holding bilateral meetings with businessmen in fields of common interest, cooperation in preparation of studies, researches, statistics and joint reports in various economic fields, as well as cooperation in holding joint seminars and workshops in fields of common interest.

During the meeting,

The two sides stressed the needs to work on developing a clear work plan through the signed memorandum of understanding. In order to promote the volume of bilateral investments in the interest of both sides.

H.E Ambassador of the Tunisian Republic to Jordan Mr. Khalid Al-Siheili Visits the Iraqi Business Council In a Farewell Meeting on the Occasion of the End of His Duties

H.E the Ambassador of the Tunisian Republic to Jordan, Mr. Khalid Al-Siheili, visited on Wednesday September 14th 2022 the Iraqi Business Council on the occasion of the end of his duties in Jordan, accompanies by the Advisor and Deputy of the Head of Mission, Mr. Muhammad Ali Benhabib, and the Tunisian Commercial Attaché, Mr. Atif Al-Ghariani.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary-General, Dr. Saad Naji, extended his thanks to the Tunisian Ambassador in appreciation to his efforts and creative work in strengthening economic relations between IBC member companies and the Tunisian companies, and the facilities extended by the Ambassador as to granting entry visas to IBC members to Tunisia promptly, which contributed to achieving success stories on the level of trade relations between the members and their counterparts in Tunisia.

During the meeting, Dr. Saad Naji also affirmed the need to encourage tourism to Tunisia and facilitate all procedures, given Tunisia’s tourism potentials and the civilized and cultural landmark it enjoys.

 

For his part, the Tunisian Ambassador spoke about the depth of brotherly relations existing between Iraq and Tunisia, which have long been distinguished historic relations, affirming that he’d pass his recommendations to the Tunisian government on the need to lift the entry visa restrictions to travel to Tunisia for Iraqis, just like Jordanians, stressing the significant role of the private sector in Iraq and Tunisia as to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.  In order to enhance future cooperation, H.E the Ambassador proposed organizing a trade mission from IBC members to visit Tunisia and signing a “twining agreement” with the Tunisian – African Business Council.

 

The Tunisian Commercial Attaché, Mr. Atif Al-Ghariani, expressed regret at the scarcity of Tunisian exports to Iraq, which do not exceed 15 million US Dollars annually, due to monitoring 80% of the Tunisian exports to the European Union and the weak  promotion of trade opportunities and information on Tunisian industry to the Iraqi side.

 

At the end of the meeting, H.E the Tunisian Ambassador expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Iraqi Business Council for the support and cooperation it provided to enhance economic relations.

Also, IBC members presented, on behalf of the Council, the Tunisian Ambassador with the “creative work shield” wishing him further progress and success.

 

The meeting was attended by IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary-General, Dr. Saad Naji, IBC Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz and members; Mr. Nazar Awji, Mr. Muhammmad Shanshal and representatives of the Seven Seas Company Mr. Tariq Hawi and Ms. Abeer Mtashar and IBC Diretor General.

Economic event: Jordan Businessmen Association Delegation Visits The Iraqi Business Council

A delegation of members of the Jordanian Businessmen Association namely PM Engineer Abdul Rahim Al-Biqaie, Association Secretary-General, and Board members; Mr. Michel Nazzal, Engineer Yusri Tahboub, Association member, Engineer Abdul Rahman Abu Dahar, and the Association Chief Executive Officer Mr. Tariq Hijazi visited the Iraqi Business Council on Sunday September 11th 2022.

They were received by IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary-General, Dr. Saad Naji, IBC Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz and IBC Director General.

The meeting aimed at discussing relations between the two sides and mechanisms of future bilateral cooperation, in addition to a number of issues, as well as a number of issues of concern to the business community on both sides.

During the meeting, Dr. Saad Naji affirmed that the Iraqi – Jordanian economic relations maintained their strength during the previous yeas despite all previous regional challenges, pointing out that the Iraqi investors in Jordan enjoy a number of investment advantages provided by the investment law, along with a package of incentives and exemptions.

Dr. Naji also pointed out that the Iraqi Business Council, which was established in 2006, includes among its members a group of elite Iraqi businessmen, numbering to 400 businessmen, representing nearly 3200 companies, who own various investments in various economic sectors mainly tourism, industry and general trade sectors.

The Iraqi Business Council aims to maintain continuous networking between the two countries.

During the meeting, it was agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding that strengthens joint cooperation between the two sides in all fields, especially in the tourism field to promote Iraqi investment in Jordan in this qualitative sector.
