Communication on progress 2016 (CSR)

In order to enhance the concept of partnership between the Public and Private Sectors and the principles of integrity and transparency, the Iraqi Business Council (IBC) was a pioneer organizer and supporter to the United Nations Global Compact Initiative concerning the social responsibility of companies.

 

This Initiative that promotes the consolidation of ten principles adopted by the United Nations including transparency, combating child labor, integrity, environment preservation, human rights and other sublime principles that the IBC endeavored to apply to its agendas and programs since its establishment to the present date through symposiums and workshops to introduce this Initiative and its role in the development of the business society and the Iraqi civil society.

IBC Board of Directors being keen on expanding participation in the activities of the local network of the Global Compact in Iraq, appointed Dr. Amila Naji holder of a Ph.D. Degree in Companies’ Social Responsibility and an IBC member, as IBC Counselor for companies’ social responsibility and IBC representative in the Steering Committee of the Local Network of Global Compact in Iraq.

With this in mind, IBC was keen since its foundation to establish and support health care and humanitarian aid programs for the Iraqi community in Jordan by forming humanitarian committees to support the humanitarian programs and improve the conditions of vulnerable Iraqis whether inside Iraq or those living in Jordan.

The activities of this committee cover health, living and educational programs, and efforts to provide resources that assist in alleviating the sufferings of this vulnerable sector including “I HAVE A DREAM” Program to support Iraqi children inflicted with incurable diseases, “FARAH” Program which was designated to children with burns who were mutilated as a result of the obnoxious acts of terrorism underway in Iraq, and “AL-BALSAM” Program designated to aid the vulnerable Iraqi elderly patients who are in the Intensive Care Units in the Jordanian hospitals.

In addition to the aforementioned, IBC also sponsors Iraqi competencies of intellectuals, university professors, artists, scholars and other qualified dignitaries living in Jordan by means of shedding light on their creativity and supporting them to hold art exhibitions and finding opportunities to propagate their ingenuousness regionally and globally.

IBC sponsorship of scientific competencies was not only limited to Jordan, but it extended to participation in the Diamond Sponsorship of “Tamayuz Award” for architectural excellence of graduation projects for students of architectural engineering colleges in Iraqi universities for 2012 to stimulate scientific ingenuousness and encourage Iraqi competencies and talents.

IBC further works on promoting social ties between members of the Iraqi community residing in Jordan and outside Iraq through cultural activities and various social meetings.

Based on IBC various activities in the humanitarian field and keenness of its members to take part in the social and economic rehabilitation initiatives, with great pride IBC participated in organizing fine arts and humanitarian gallery under the title “MEMORY OF A PLACE” which represented the Iraqi man holding on to his genuine cultural roots.. crying out loud “this is Iraq, it is my land.. it is my history.. it is the dream of my children and ancestors.. it is the place that has imperishable living memory.”

This art exhibition was held in collaboration with the International Migration Organization – Iraq Mission and the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Jordan where elite Iraqi, Jordanian and European artists participated with the objective of supporting the affected communities in Iraq through the activities of the International Migration Organization that plays an outstanding sublime humanitarian role to alleviate the suffering of displaced Iraqis inside and outside Iraq through the support of the Iraqi Embassy in Jordan which has achieved remarkable successes turning it from an Embassy to a warm home embracing all Iraqis.

This participation comes as an achievement of IBC objectives, humanitarian goals and its ethical responsibility to aid the vulnerable Iraqis inside and outside Iraq.

IBC Members Meet with the Delegation of Indian Companies Visiting Jordan

In response to the invitation extended to IBC by the Commercial Consulate of the Indian Embassy in Jordan, a number of IBC members attended a meeting held at Amman Cham Palace Hotel with the Indian Companies Delegation visiting Jordan.

At the beginning of the meeting, IBC Vice Chairman Mr. Turkey Al-Qaisi thanked the visiting delegation headed by the Vice President of the Indian Export Federation Mr. Shander Saum.

Mr. Turkey Al-Qaisi gave a brief presentation on IBC, its activities and achievements, emphasizing its role in the field of economy.

Mr. Al-Qaisi called on promoting the trade cooperation between the companies owned by IBC members and their Indian counterparts.

On their part, members of the Indian Delegation briefed the audience on their Companies activities and specializations, and towards the end of the meeting the Head of the Delegation Mr. Shander Saum thanked IBC members for their attendance.

The meeting was attended by IBC CEO and staff, in addition to a number of representatives of Qabas Company.

Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them, as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council was well-founded and blessed by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Accordingly, the approval of the competent Jordanian authorities was commended for launching the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan.

IBC – Jordan Hosts A Condolence Gathering for the Leading Iraqi Theater Actor & People’s Artist – the Late Yousif Al-Ani

IBC – Jordan in cooperation with the Iraqi cultural, academic and social elites in Amman hosted on Tuesday October 18th 2016 on Khalil Al-Rahman Society Hall (Al-Madina Al-Munawara Str.) a condolence gathering for the leading Iraqi theater actor and people’s actor – late Yousif Al-Ani.

The gathering was attended by a large crowd of Iraqi and Jordanian social, academic, cultural and popular elites in an expression of sorrow and sadness on the passing away of the prominent Iraqi artist.

Several Satellite TV Channels, news agencies and journalists covered this event.

A large number of contemporary Iraqi artists took part in this event, bearing in mind that IBC represented by IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Al Sadi, IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, Vice President Mr. Nazar Awchi, Vice Chairman Engineer Jalal Qaoud and Board members; Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi, Mr. Ali Ghalib, Mr. Khalil Al-bunniya and Mr. Mumtaz Al-Taie received the crowd of condolers.

The one who carried out the mission of founding is an elite of Iraqi businessmen of recognized competence and abilities. and since the Council’s inception in late 2006, members have worked towards efforts to support Iraqi investments in Jordan. as well as coordination and cooperation with official entities, to find solutions and proposals to overcome obstacles and constraints facing investors s economic, investment and trade cooperation between Jordan and Iraq.

IBC First Board of Directors Meeting for the Fourth Session And Election of Chairman, Deputies, Secretary General & Committees Heads

The new IBC Board of Directors in its fourth session held its first meeting at 6.00 pm on Thursday October 13th 2016 at IBC Hall / First Floor in the presence of eleven members out of its thirteen members, thus realizing quorum, in which IBC Chairman, Deputies, Secretary General and Heads of Committees were elected and as follows:

–          Dr. Majid Saedi – IBC Chairman and Head of the Jordanian Local Affairs Committee,

–          Mr. Saad Naji Chairman Deputy and Secretary General,

–          Mr. Nazar Awchi – Chairman Deputy,

–          Engineer Jalal Al Gaood / Chairman Deputy,

–          Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi / Board member and Head of the Foreign Relations Committee,

–          Mr. Usama Al-Quraishi / Board member and Head of Iraq Affairs Committee,

–          Mrs. Wasan Al-Khafaj / Board member and Head of the Humanitarian and Social Committee,

–          Mr. Ali Ghalib / Board member and Head of the Economic Committee,

–          Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz / Board member and Head of the Cultural Committee,

During the meeting, IBC Chairman, Dr. Saedi, stressed the necessity of exerting efforts to expand Iraqi investments in Jordan because of the security Jordan enjoys, investment laws and wide facilities existing in Jordan, appraising at the same time the role of the Jordanian government in its continuous support to Iraqi investors under the Hashemite leadership lead by His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussien (God protect Him).

The audience stressed that opening the border crossings between Iraq and Jordan would be a priority to IBC because of its strategic and economic significance for the two countries, in addition to creating investment opportunities for the Jordanian companies in the contracts announced by Iraqi government.

The members also agreed on enhancing cooperation with the international organizations in the field of reconstruction of the affected areas in Iraq giving priority to IBC member companies in the projects introduced by these organizations.

Meeting of the Board of Directors was concluded at 9.00 pm on Thursday October 13th 2016.

Meeting of IBC Members with the American Embassy Economic Advisor’s Deputy

A number of IBC members; Dr. Majid Saedi, Mr. Saad Naji, Mrs. Wasan Al-Khafaji, Mr. Faris Kamal and IBC CEO met on Tuesday October 11th, 2016 at IBC Headquarters with the American Embassy Economic Advisor’s Deputy Mrs. Mariana Noisler and the Economic Analyst at the American Embassy in Jordan Mr. Shadi Al-Majali.

At the beginning of the meeting Dr. Saedi welcomed the guests and presented an overview on IBC tasks, activities and endeavors to invigorate investment in Iraq and Jordan reviewing the volume of investment of IBC member companies in a number of sectors.
During the meeting, the members also discussed means of enhancing economic cooperation with the American companies and the difficulties encountering companies to export commodities to Iraq under the present circumstances, stressing the necessity of opening Trebil border crossing to improve the economic and trade relations between Iraq and Jordan.

Furthermore, Dr. Saedi emphasized the need to find new mechanism for investors and producers to invest in the American markets. For his part, Mr. Faris Kamal stressed on the need to facilitate the process of Iraq’s joining the International Trade Organization.

Also, the US Embassy Economic Advisor’s Deputy Mrs. Mariana Noisler expressed keenness of the American Embassy Economic Section to promote relationships with the Iraqi investors especially in the energy and water sectors and discussed with the members a mechanism to finance projects, the existing banking system in Iraq and work mechanism of the private banks in Iraq.
At the end of the meeting, both sides exchanged thanks on organizing the meeting.

Al-Khuld Studies Centre & Peace Ambassadors Organization Honor IBC

On Tuesday October 4th, 2016 IBC was honored for the second time in a special ceremony hosted by Al-Khuld Studies Centre and Peace Ambassadors Organization, as well as a group of renowned Iraqi scientists, innovators and pioneers who set a distinct imprint in different aspects of life such as humanitarian, medical, scientific, artistic and economic aspects.
The number of honorees was 32 figures including Patriarch Rafael Saco, Dr. Ali Faraj Al-Saleh and Dr. Nabil Al-Mukhtar.

For the scientific side Dr. Ihsan Fathi, Designer Hana Sadiq, Artist Ibrahim Al-Abdali and other innovators were honored, and IBC – Jordan was on the lead in the economic aspect.
