Opening of the Second Personal Art Exhibition of Iraqi Artist Bushra Al-Khateeb “Samiramis”

Under IBC “Ibdaa” Cultural Program, the second personal art exhibition of Iraqi artist Bashra Al-Khatib titled “Samiramis” was opened on Saturday November 28th 2015 under the patronage of the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Jawad Hadi Abbas on IBC Hall (Zain) – 1st Floor.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Ambassador’s wife, the Iraqi Cultural Attaché Dr. Abbas Al-Husseini and a number of the Embassy staff. On IBC side, the ceremony was attended by IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji, a large number of academics, artists, media and members of the Iraqi community in Jordan, in addition to IBC CEO and staff.

During the ceremony the Iraqi Ambassador and his wife toured the exhibition accompanied by artist Bushra Al-Khateeb to view the paintings in exhibit that were marked by the expressionist and realist style introduced with a beautiful narrative technique.

The artist’s paintings were diversified and not limited to a single pattern. She expressed her innermost feelings directly on canvas in terms of subject and technique as to the selection of colors and materials used.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council is based on the common desire generated by a number of elites. Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them, as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council was well-founded and blessed by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Accordingly, the approval of the competent Jordanian authorities was commended for launching the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan.

 

IBC Delegation Meets with Jordanian Interior Minister Mr. Salama Hammad

Upon the invitation extended by the Jordanian Interior Minister Mr. Salama Hammad, IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Sadi and IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji met with His Excellency yesterday Tuesday November 24th 2015 at the Interior Ministry Headquarters.

The meeting was also attended by Head of Investment Commission Dr. Muntasir Al-Aqla, a number of specialists from the Directorate of Nationality, the Investment Section in the Ministry and IBC CEO.

During the meeting a number of proposals and issues were raised and discussed such as overcoming obstacles encountering the Iraqi investors working in the Kingdom as to the reactivation of the “investors passport” for all Iraqi investors holding this travel document without conditions, extending its validity for five years, abolition of physical inspection for companies, granting five-year residency permits to the investors and their families and retaining the classification “investor” on residency permits issued to investors whose investments in the Kingdom were hampered. His Excellency the Minister, Mr. Salama Hammad, ordered immediate address and response to the proposals presented by IBC and instructed the competent bodies in the Interior Ministry to issue whatever instructions required for immediate implementation.

Furthermore, the Minister thanked IBC for its efforts in promoting investment in the Kingdom and praised the role of Iraqi investors in supporting the Jordanian economy.

At the end of the meeting IBC Chairman, Dr. Sadi, and Vice Chairman and Secretary-General, Mr. Saad Naji, appraised the grand attitude of the Interior Minister and the rational Jordanian Government under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein especially under the critical and subtle economic circumstances that Jordan and the whole region is currently witnessing.

They also thanked Dr. Muntasir Al-Aqla for his efforts in supporting the Iraqi investors and eliminating obstacles facing them for the prosperity of invaluable Jordan.

Iraqi Oil Minister Dr. Adel Abdul Mehdi Meets with IBC Delegation during His Visit to Jordan To Discuss the Iraqi – Jordanian Oil Pipeline

During his visit to Jordan, the Iraqi Oil Minister Dr. Adel Abdul Mehdi met at his residence yesterday Monday November 16th 2015 with IBC delegation consisting of IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Sadi, IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji and IBC vice Chairman Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi to discuss the latest developments on the Iraqi – Jordanian Oil Pipeline in the presence of the Director General of the Oil Projects Company of the Iraqi Oil Ministry Engineer Nihad Mousa.

During the meeting, the Iraqi Oil Minister Dr. Abdul Mehdi discussed with IBC delegation the new course of the Iraqi – Jordanian Oil Pipeline and his expectations on implementation.

Dr. Abdul Mehdi further spoke of the efforts of the Iraqi Oil Ministry in promoting and supporting the Private sector to implement the Ministry’s projects including the Strategic Pipeline Project in its investment part.

On his part, IBC Chairman Dr. Sadi welcomed the Iraqi Oil Minister and expressed the desire and willingness of IBC to invest in the Iraqi – Jordanian Oil Pipeline Project and all Projects of the Ministry.

Engineer Nihad Mousa then reviewed the Ministry’s projects in progress. Also, IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji proposed adoption of the International Monetary Fund emergency plan developed by the Fund to support the Iraqi economy during these critical circumstances.

It is noteworthy that IBC had sponsored and supported the establishment of this vital Project since 2006 based for its conviction of the Project’s strategic importance to Iraq and Jordan to significantly and effectively support the economy of the two neighboring countries.

Iraqi Contestant Ahmed Naeem Comes in the Second Place in Ayla Bicycles 200 Km Race

IBC Chairman and Board members extend their congratulations to the Iraqi competitor Ahmed Naeem on winning the second place, with only 1/10th second difference, in Ayla 200 Kilometers Bicycle Race on Friday November 13th 2015 from the Dead Sea to the Red Sea under the auspices of IBC.

Sponsorship included the subscription fees, provision of the required race supplies, a team that accompanied the contester and IBC vehicle that accompanied the competitor Ahmed Naeem through the race, bearing in mind that IBC will honor the contester Ahmed Naeem who raised the Iraqi flag when arriving the finish line.

A Delegation of IBC Members Participates in the International Monetary Fund Seminar (Iraq Mission) Regarding “Prospects of the Regional Economic Situation, Especially Iraq”

A delegation of IBC members participated in a seminar over “Prospects of the Regional Economic Situation, Especially Iraq” held by the delegation of the International Monetary Fund – Iraq Mission visiting Jordan chaired by Head of Mission Mr. Christian Jose and the accompanying delegation consisting of Mr. Ahmed Hijazi / Economist, Miss Christian Neer / Economist and the Resident Representative of Iraq and Yemen Mission Miss Marwa Al-Naasa, held on Wednesday November 11th, 2015 in the Intercontinental Hotel – Amman.

On IBC side, the meeting was attended by IBC Vice President and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji and Board Members; Mr. Usama Al-Quraishi and Mr. Muhammad Al-Sarraf, and IBC members; Mr. Hassan Al-Dahhan, Mr. Kamil Alwan, Mr. Haleem Al-Hadithi, Mr. Atheer Al-Qadhi and IBC CEO, in addition to representatives of IBC companies. Among the participants were the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Belgium Embassy in Jordan Mr. Youris Toti, Dr. Ahmed Atiqa / Chairman of the International Finance Organization in Jordan and Mr. Haytham Qamhiya Chairman of the Capital Bank in Jordan.
During the Seminar surveys were presented on the global economic and financial situations and a road map was reviewed on the international environment, regional issues, the oil exporting and importing Middle Eastern and North African countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Seminar also discussed reduced oil prices, ongoing conflicts and their burdens and impacts on the expected horizons of the Middle East.

IBC Delegation Meets with Head of Jordan Investment Board; Dr. Muntasir Al-Aqla

IBC delegation met yesterday; Sunday November 8th, 2015 with the Head of Jordan Investment Board Dr. Muntasir Al-Aqla at the Jordan Investment Board Headquarters – Wadi Saqra.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Al-Aqla welcomed IBC delegation and discussed a number of issues and challenges facing Iraqi investors in the Kingdom, the most prominent of which were the banking facilities, energy bills and sales tax on the Tourism and Aviation Sectors.

During the meeting Dr. Al-Aqla affirmed that the Iraqi investor is an asset to the Jordanian economy, a factor of attracting Arab and foreign investments and a leading example for non Jordanian investors as to the successes achieved by the Iraqi investor under various challenges and circumstances.

Dr. Al-Aqla further stressed that supporting Arab and foreign investors is among the priorities emphasized by the Leadership of the country, and that the Iraqi investor enjoys a historic particularity due to his contribution to the promotion of domestic and foreign trade, pointing out to the continuous growth and development in the national economy that involves different challenges that must be addressed in order to resolve and overcome.

Dr. Al-Aqla further reviewed the mechanism of promoting investment and developing attraction of investments in light of the political and economic conditions prevailing in the region, lauding the efforts exerted by all official bodies to overcome the consequences of these challenges.

He highlighted the main features and characteristics of the current investment law, the benefits and incentives provided under the law for investors especially in light of the challenges Jordan faces as a result of the present circumstances.

He elaborated that establishment of an investment window meets the requirements of investors for speedy, advanced and high quality services.

Dr. Al-Aqla pointed out the advantages and exemptions provided for factory-owner investors regarding switching to solar energy.
On his part, IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Sadi thanked the Jordanian Government on its efforts to provide facilities to Iraqi investors, lauding the efforts exerted by the staff of Jordan Investment Board and in particular those of its Chairman for the pursuance of solutions to cope with the obstacles and challenges facing approximately 150 thousand Iraqi investors in Jordan whose fields of activity vary between Health, Tourism, Industry and Trade Sectors.

Dr. Sadi indicated that the challenges deriving from the present circumstances surrounding the Kingdom have not deterred the Iraqi investor from pursuing his economic activities, developing and promoting his investments by pumping extra capital, calling to find a way to reduce bank interests incurred on loans pertaining to expanding and developing the investor’s businesses.

He further added that the Iraqi investment sector in the fields of Tourism and Aviation began to suffer an unprecedented rise in rents of offices in the campus of the Airports Companies where rental rates doubled by over 100 per cent, in addition to higher energy costs.

IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji said that IBC embraces about 400 elite Iraqi investors with a volume of investment of about 14 billion US Dollars, stressing on the necessity of reaching satisfactory solutions for the challenges and obstacles facing the Iraqi investor; especially the issue of residency permits and means of transferring the said permits to members of investors’ families, in addition to taxes of the Hotel Sector in the Capital Amman compared with rates of hotel existing in the development and free zones.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Al-Aqla promised to follow up all issues raised during the meeting with the competent authorities to overcome all obstacles facing the Iraqi investors in the Kingdom.

IBC Members’ Meeting with the Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade & Supply Engineer Maha Ali

A delegation consisting of IBC members met Tuesday November 3rd 2015 with the Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade & Supply Engineer Maha Ali at the Ministry Headquarters in Abdali.

At the beginning of the meeting the Minister welcomed the visiting delegation consisting of IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Sadi, IBC Vice President and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji, IBC Board members; Mr. Jalal Al-Qaod, Mr. Usama Al-Quraishi, Mr. Ali Ghalib and Mr. Fakhri Rishan, and IBC members; Dr. Ahmed Talib Al-Jubouri, Mr. Dhiya Al-Shakarchi, Mr. Ahmed Al-Amili, Mr. Aqeel Al-Hadi and IBC CEO.

The Minister of Industry, Trade & Supply Engineer Maha Ali said during the meeting that the Jordanian Government has adopted a package of decisions to motivate the economic sectors, enhance competitiveness and promote the business environment to confront challenges, particularly the consequences of regional conditions.

The Minister added during her meeting with IBC Chairman and members that the Jordanian Government is keen on supporting and eliminating all obstacles facing investors in Jordan.

In response to the interventions of IBC Chairman and members, the Minister said that Iraqi investments in Jordan are the focus of attention and appreciation of the Jordanian Government, who realizes the challenges it faces, along with other Jordanian industrial plants, due to the closure of Trebil Border Crossing with Iraq as many Jordanian industries are dependent on the Iraqi market to market their products.  She also emphasized that all competent Government Authorities work in coordination with the representation bodies of the Private Sector to address the obstacles facing investment projects in various fields.

She further elaborated that the Jordanian Government follows up with interest with its Iraqi counterparts reopening the boarders between the two countries as soon as possible to facilitate the flow of Jordanian exports that have severely suffered due to the closure of Trebil Boarder Crossing.

The Minister pointed out that the Jordanian Government works on diversifying the sources of energy and shifting to alternative energy, including the Industrial Sector and other sectors, to reduce production costs.

On his part, Dr. Sadi spoke about the volume of Iraqi investments in the Kingdom and reviewed a number of obstacles facing Iraqi investments such as sales tax and high electricity costs on tourist installations.

Also, IBC members discussed a number of other obstacles such as the income tax on imported services which were raised by Mr. Jalal Al-Qaod.

At the end of the meeting, Dr- Majid Sadi thanked the Minister of Industry, Trade & Supply for the warm reception and attention.
