IBC Chairman & Members Meet with Members of the US Embassy Delegation In IBC Offices

On Tuesday October 11th 2022, IBC Chairman, Dr. Majid Saedi, Deputy Chairman & Secretary-General, Dr. Saad Naji, IBC Board member, Dr. Osama Al-Quraishi, and IBC Director General met with the delegation of the Refugees Support Program at the Political Section of the United States Embassy in Jordan to discuss the situation of Iraqi refugees  in Jordan and the mechanisms of supporting them by obtaining the approval of the Jordanian government to allow them to work in Jordan.

The US Embassy delegation included the Senior Coordinator of Refugees Affairs, Mr. Roberts McInturff, the Senior Coordinator of Refugees Affairs, Mrs. Rebecca White and the Assistant Refugees Support Programs, Mrs. Khulud Al-Edwan.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Saedi welcomed members of the Embassy delegation and reviewed the volume of Iraqi investment in Jordan, and the support provided by the Iraqi Business Council to Iraqi investors and members of the Iraqi community in Jordan, especially the refugees.

Dr. Saedi then reviewed the humanitarian side that IBC works on through its Humanitarian Program “Istijaba” (Response), which was launched by the Council within the social responsibility to serve community under the UN Global Compact, as through this Program professional workshops and courses were set up to train the refugees with cooperation of the international organizations and UN agencies, stressing that the tourism sector in Jordan absorbs large number of labor.

He proposed approaching the Jordanian official authorities to allow Iraqi refugees to work in the Tourism sector.

 

For his part, Mr. Robert McInturff reviewed the file of Iraqi refugees registered in the “UNHCR”, indicating that their number is about 66.000 registered refugees.

He stressed the endeavors of the US government and the UN to approach the Jordanian official authorities to allow Iraqi refugees to work in the Jordanian market, especially in the industry, agriculture and construction sectors just like the Syrians, while keeping the asylum certificate.

The Embassy delegation talked about the services provided by the Refugees Support Program of the US government.

 

At the end of the meeting, the US Embassy delegation thanked IBC Chairman and members for organizing this meeting.

 

 

H.E Ambassador of the Tunisian Republic to Jordan Mr. Khalid Al-Siheili Visits the Iraqi Business Council In a Farewell Meeting on the Occasion of the End of His Duties

H.E the Ambassador of the Tunisian Republic to Jordan, Mr. Khalid Al-Siheili, visited on Wednesday September 14th 2022 the Iraqi Business Council on the occasion of the end of his duties in Jordan, accompanies by the Advisor and Deputy of the Head of Mission, Mr. Muhammad Ali Benhabib, and the Tunisian Commercial Attaché, Mr. Atif Al-Ghariani.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary-General, Dr. Saad Naji, extended his thanks to the Tunisian Ambassador in appreciation to his efforts and creative work in strengthening economic relations between IBC member companies and the Tunisian companies, and the facilities extended by the Ambassador as to granting entry visas to IBC members to Tunisia promptly, which contributed to achieving success stories on the level of trade relations between the members and their counterparts in Tunisia.

During the meeting, Dr. Saad Naji also affirmed the need to encourage tourism to Tunisia and facilitate all procedures, given Tunisia’s tourism potentials and the civilized and cultural landmark it enjoys.

 

For his part, the Tunisian Ambassador spoke about the depth of brotherly relations existing between Iraq and Tunisia, which have long been distinguished historic relations, affirming that he’d pass his recommendations to the Tunisian government on the need to lift the entry visa restrictions to travel to Tunisia for Iraqis, just like Jordanians, stressing the significant role of the private sector in Iraq and Tunisia as to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.  In order to enhance future cooperation, H.E the Ambassador proposed organizing a trade mission from IBC members to visit Tunisia and signing a “twining agreement” with the Tunisian – African Business Council.

 

The Tunisian Commercial Attaché, Mr. Atif Al-Ghariani, expressed regret at the scarcity of Tunisian exports to Iraq, which do not exceed 15 million US Dollars annually, due to monitoring 80% of the Tunisian exports to the European Union and the weak  promotion of trade opportunities and information on Tunisian industry to the Iraqi side.

 

At the end of the meeting, H.E the Tunisian Ambassador expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Iraqi Business Council for the support and cooperation it provided to enhance economic relations.

Also, IBC members presented, on behalf of the Council, the Tunisian Ambassador with the “creative work shield” wishing him further progress and success.

 

The meeting was attended by IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary-General, Dr. Saad Naji, IBC Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz and members; Mr. Nazar Awji, Mr. Muhammmad Shanshal and representatives of the Seven Seas Company Mr. Tariq Hawi and Ms. Abeer Mtashar and IBC Diretor General.

Economic Event: Visit of H.E the Ambassador of the Republic of Pakistan to Jordan Sajjad Ali Khan to IBC Offices

His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Pakistan to Jordan Sajjad Ali Khan and the Pakistani Commercial Attaché Khadim Ali visited on Sunday December 12th 2021 the Iraqi Business Council accompanied by businessman and journalist Dr. Waddah Al-Kelani and met with IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji, Board member Mr. Muhammad Shanshal and IBC Director General.

At the beginning of the meeting, H.E. the Pakistani Ambassador thanked IBC members on organizing the meeting and talked about the economic and investment advantages Pakistan enjoys, indicating that Pakistan enjoys diverse and significant resources with promising investment opportunities especially with the Pakistani – Chinese economic passage and Gwadar Port, which is an important point on the way to the economic passage between China and Pakistan, whereas it is characterized by distinguished geographic location as is located between south Asia and the Middle East.

A free zone has been established in the Port, which grants companies tax and customs exemptions, in addition to easy exportation to a large number of world countries.

Afterwards IBC Director General reviewed IBC progress and achievements on all levels.  For his part, Dr. Saad Naji thanked the Pakistani Ambassador for his visit to the Council and his interest to strengthen economic relations with IBC member companies.

In response to the Ambassador’s proposal on sending a trade delegation that includes Iraqi investors and businessmen who are desirous on learning about investment and commercial opportunities available in Pakistan, Dr. Saad Naji affirmed the Council readiness to organize the visit and also receiving visiting trade delegations from Pakistan.

At the end of the meeting the two sides exchanged thanks on organizing the meeting, then Dr. Saad Naji presented the Council’s icon (the Sumerian Tree of Life) as a gift to H.E. the Ambassador of Pakistan on behalf of the Iraqi Business Council.

Iraqi Business council Members Participate in the Breakfast Invitation Event Held in Honor of the Visiting Irish Foreign Minister Mr. Simon Coveney

IBC Board member Engineer Mekki Al-Faiz, IBC member Mr. Anwer Omar and IBC Director General participated on Friday November 5th, 2021 in the breakfast event held at Amman Fairmont Hotel in honor of the Irish Foreign Minister Mr. Simon Coveney during his visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the Irish Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Vincent O’Neil welcomed the guests and thanked the Irish Foreign Minister for sponsoring the opening ceremony of the new location of the Republic of Ireland Embassy in Jordan.

IBC Director General took part in the breakfast event with a welcome speech in which she presented an overview on the Council’s activities, programs and economic achievements and the most important sectors in which members invest in Iraq and Jordan, in addition to an overview on the investment environment in Iraq.

The Director General emphasized readiness of IBC member companies to cooperate with the Irish companies to identify investment and economic opportunities available in Iraq.

Also, IBC Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz had a side talk with the Irish Foreign Minister and the Irish Ambassador on the economic situation and projects available in Iraq.

For his part, the Irish Foreign Minister expressed his country’s support for Iraq and stressed Ireland’s readiness to participate in the process of economic development that would enhance Iraq’s security and stability.

A number of Heads of organizations and economic associations in Jordan took part in the event, in addition to a number of businessmen and investors.

Meeting of Members of the Iraqi Business Council with the Ambassador of the Republic of Sri Lanka to Jordan

Members of the Iraqi Business Council; IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji, Board member Engineer Ali Ghalib Al-Khafaji, Engineer Muhammad Shanshal and IBC CEO met on Monday October 11th 2021 with the Ambassador of the Republic of Sri Lanka to Jordan Ms. Shanika Dissanayke during her visit to IBC offices.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Sri Lankan Ambassador thanked IBC members for their reception and for organizing the meeting.

Ms. Dissanayke talked about the investment opportunities available in a number of sectors in Sri Lanka, including opportunities available for investment in the largest financial, commercial and tourist centre, which is now being built in Sri Lanka, as Sri Lanka has been nominated to be one of five most important tourist cities in the world, in addition to the industrial sector, including the dairy products industry, where there is a significant shortage of dairy production, adding that there are great investment opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector.

The Ambassador called upon investors to consider investing in Sri Lanka to benefit from the customs exemptions in a number of countries that had signed free trade agreements with Sri Lanka such as India, Bangladesh and Singapore.

The Ambassador also provided an overview on the shipbuilding sector, which is considered one of the promising sectors that characterizes Sri Lanka.

The Ambassador also extended an invitation to IBC members to visit Sri Lanka to attend the largest exhibition of ship manufacturing, which would be held online on October 25th – 29th 2021, attached in the following link.

At the end of the meeting, IBC members agreed with Sri Lanka Ambassador to organize a video meeting with the Head of Sri Lanka Investment Board to identify more available investment opportunities.

The two sides exchanged thanks on organizing the meeting, and Dr. Saad Naji presented IBC icon (the Sumerian Tree of Life) to the Ambassador of Sri Lank on behalf of the members of the Iraqi Business Council.

Meeting of the British Ambassador to Jordan Mrs. Bridget Brind with Iraqi Business council Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi

The British Ambassador to Jordan Mrs. Bridget Brind met on Sunday July 11th 2021 with the Chairman of the Iraqi business Council Dr. Majid Saedi during her visit to Dr. Saedi’s office.

The Ambassador was accompanied by the Second Secretary for Regional Affairs Mr. Muddathar Mussawar and the British Embassy’s Head of the International Trade Department Mrs. Suha Patarseh in the presence of the Council’s Director General.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Saedi welcomed the British Ambassador and the accompanying delegation of Embassy staff, then talked about the importance of economic integration and cooperation between Iraq, Jordan and Egypt in all fields because of its benefits for the peoples of the region, especially cooperation in the field of energy and the need to implement the Electrical Linkage Project between Jordan, Iraq and Egypt and establishing logistic cities to serve industry.

Dr. Saedi expressed his optimism about improving the economic situation in Iraq after the upcoming elections.

He further talked about the achievements of the Iraqi Business Council as a professional business organization that has endeavored since its establishment to provide facilities to the Council members of Iraqi businessmen and investors and overcome obstacles, the Council’s role as a link between international companies and the Iraqi private sector, and the support of the Council’s members to the Jordanian economy by investing in Jordan and Iraq, in addition to the Council’s initiatives to promote a number of important and vital projects between Iraq and Jordan, such as the Iraqi – Jordanian Pipeline Project, lauding the security stability enjoyed by Jordan, and its important geographical location for Iraq, which makes it an attractive area for Iraq investors and businessmen.

For her part, the British Ambassador Mrs. Bridget Brind congratulated Dr. Saedi on his recent assumption of the position of Head of Central England Development and extended her thanks for organizing the meeting and stressed her willingness to invite and encourage the British companies to participate in future projects in Iraq.  At the end of the meeting, Dr. Saedi presented the British Ambassador with the Council’s souvenir (the Sumerian Tree of Life).

Iraqi Business Council Delegation Offers Condolences to the Deputy Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman

The Iraqi Business Council delegation that included IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji, Board member Mr. Mekki Al-Faiez, Board members Mr. Fakhri Rishan, Dr. Haiman Al-Dabbagh, Mr. Ahmad Al-Amili and Mr. Aqeel Hadi and IBC CEO offered condolences to the Deputy of Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Jordan H.E. Counselor Faisal Bin Sultan Al-Hoseni on the passing away of the Leader of the Sultanate of Oman His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed at the headquarters of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Jordan.
This meeting was preceded by a visit paid yesterday by IBC Chairman Majid Saedi to the residence of the Omani Ambassador to offer condolences.
During the meeting held today, H.E the Ambassador welcomed IBC delegation, who lauded the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and his wisdom in dealing with the neighboring countries, the regional and international relations, stressing the historic ties existing between the Iraqi and Omani people.
During the meeting, the delegation also reviewed the important economic, cultural, humanitarian and academic programs, the achievements realized by the Iraqi Business Council and affiliated companies and the volume of Iraqi investments in Jordan.
In turn, H.E Counselor Faisal Bin Sultan stressed keenness of the Sultanate of Oman on promoting the economic relations with the Iraqi investors and businessmen and providing appropriate investment environment to attract their investments to Oman.
Investment opportunities available in Iraq and Oman were also discussed, as well as the issue of organizing meetings between the Omani trade missions visiting Jordan and IBC members Jordan, including visit of the delegation of the Omani Chamber of Trade and Industry to Jordan during the coming period.
At the end of the meeting, the Omani Counselor thanked IBC members for their visit to offer condolences, stressing the need for communication between the two parts and organizing future meetings to provide facilities to IBC members and Iraqi investors.

The Cypriot Ambassador to Jordan & Iraq’s Non-Resident Ambassador Visits IBC and Meets with Iraqi Business Council Members

The Cypriot Ambassador to Jordan and Iraq’s Non-Resident Ambassador Dr. Andreas Kozobis visited on Monday February 18th 2019 IBC offices and met with IBC members; Board member Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi and IBC members Mr. Fakhri Rishan, Engineer Zaid Al-Safi, Mr. Usama Al-Safi, Mr. Muhammad Shanshal, Engineer Rula Al-Qaissi and IBC CEO.

At the beginning of the meeting, IBC Board member Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi welcomed the Cypriot Ambassador and thanked him for meeting IBC members, then IBC CEO presented a short review on IBC activities and its achievements in the economic, cultural, humanitarian and academic fields, in addition to the economic cooperation and facilities extended by various Embassies in Jordan to IBC members especially the issue of visas.

For his part, the Cypriot Ambassador affirmed that his visit to IBC was to benefit from the services provided by IBC, describing the economy as the backbone for cooperation between Iraq and Cyprus, stressing his desire to organize a meeting for IBC members to meet with the Cypriot Foreign Minister during his coming visit to Amman.

The two sides also discussed the need to build relationships and partnerships with the private sector in Iraq and Cyprus especially in the fields of oil and gas and cooperation in scientific and academic fields.

At the end of the meeting, the Cypriot Ambassador promised to work on achieving the issues discussed during the meeting including the signing of a memorandum of understanding between IBC and the organizations concerned with economic aspects, organizing a visit for IBC delegation to meet with officials in Cyprus and Cypriot businessmen and providing special facilities to IBC members to be granted multiple entry visas to Cyprus within a short period of time.

At the end of the meeting and on behalf of IBC members, Engineer Turkey Al-Qaissi presented IBC Icon (the Tree of Life) to the Cypriot Ambassador.

Visit of Iraqi Business Council Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary General To the Greek Embassy in Jordan and Meeting with the Greek Ambassador

In reply to a personal invitation extended by the Greek Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Vasilyos Bournovos, IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi, Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji and IBC CEO visited the Greek Ambassador to Jordan on Wednesday February 13th 2019 at his offices.

During the meeting, the economic developments in Iraq were discussed especially the agreement signed by the Iraqi government with the Jordanian government in the energy, transport, trade and industry sectors.

Dr. Saedi spoke about details of his recent visit to Baghdad and his participation, as speaker, regarding investment in business and energy at Rafidain Forum 2019, which witnessed participation of a large number of Ministers, officials, members of diplomatic corps and major consultancy firms.

Dr. Saedi reviewed a number of solutions and suggestions presented by the Iraqi government amongst which; allowing the private sector to invest in the electricity sector, development of the education sector, along with other proposals to develop the investment environment in Iraq.

For his part, the Greek Ambassador stressed the significant role of women and youth in building the country, and expressed his readiness to cooperate and approach the Greek government to establish a cultural exchange program between the Greek and Iraqi students within IBC’s cultural and academic programs.

This meeting comes as part of the regular meetings held with the Greek Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Vasilyos Bournovos to follow up the joint cooperation with IBC and facilities extended by the Greek Embassy relating to entry visas to IBC members and their families.

At the end of the meeting the two sides exchanged thanks for organizing this meeting.

Visit of IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General to the Turkish Embassy in Jordan And Meeting with the Turkish Ambassador Mr. Murat Karajus

IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji and IBC CEO visited on Sunday October 7th 2018 the Turkish Embassy in Jordan and were received by the Turkish Ambassador to Jordan Mr. Murat Karajus, the Commercial Counselor Mrs. Neil Jokaja and the Embassy third Secretary.

During the meeting, the Turkish Ambassador expressed his interest in promoting means of cooperation with Iraqi investors and businessmen members of IBC in Jordan, reviewing the new facilities provided by the Turkish Government to investors on the required conditions and financial criteria to obtain the Turkish citizenship, namely the purchase of a property against 250 thousand American Dollars, provided that it is not sold for three years, a fixed investment of not less than 500 thousand American Dollars, providing work opportunities for fifty Turkish citizens or depositing 500 thousand American Dollars in the Turkish banks.

During the meeting, Mr. Saad Naji spoke about the volume of Iraqi investment in Jordan, IBC achievements in all fields, IBC keenness to increase the volume of cooperation between the companies owned by IBC members and the Turkish companies and organize trade delegations exchange.

For his part, the Turkish Ambassador stressed his keenness to continue providing facilities to IBC members such as two-year multiples visa to IBC members and their families.

At the end of the meeting the two sides agreed on organizing a visit to the Turkish Ambassador to IBC headquarters to meet with the members interested in investment in Turkey.
