Economic Event: IBC Chairman & Members Meet with the New American Commercial Attaché

The new American Commercial Attaché at the US Embassy in Amman Ms. Jane Pierre – Louis and the delegation from the US Embassy in Amman, which included commercial experts; Ms. Lubna Abdul Hadi, Ms. Susan Barbour and Mr. Marwan Madain met on Wednesday June 16th 2021 with the Chairman of the Iraqi Business Council Dr. Majid Saedi, IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji, Board member Engineer Mekki Al-Faiz and IBC Director General at IBC head office.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Saedi welcomed the new Commercial Attaché and the accompanying delegation from the Embassy staff and talked about the achievements of the Council since its establishment in 2006 as a leading business organization, the facilities and services provided by the Iraqi Business Council to its members that include Iraqi investors and businessmen, the role of the Council in stimulating investment and overcoming obstacles facing investors in Jordan and Iraq.

He also reviewed the investment environment and the economic situation in Iraq, role of the private sector in advancing the economic realities despite the many difficulties that face the Iraqi companies operating in Iraq.

Dr. Saedi called on increasing cooperation between the Iraqi and American companies, increasing investment of the American companies in promising sectors in Iraq such as the energy and education sectors, infrastructure and housing projects and other sectors.

Dr. Saedi talked about the financing agreement provided by the Saudi Development Fund with the Iraqi banks to support export of Saudi products to Iraq, which comes within the allocations of the Saudi government to support reconstruction and development projects in Iraq that will contribute to strengthening the trade relations between the two countries and providing high-quality products.

For her part, Ms. Jane Pierre-Louis lauded the role of the Council in networking between its member companies and their counterparts in other countries including the United States and proposed holding regular trade fairs organized in partnership with the Iraqi Business Council to encourage the American companies to export their products to the Iraqi market, stressing that the coming period will witness greater cooperation and coordination with the Council and participation of the Council in all activities and fairs that would be held in the United States, and that the US Embassy will continue to approve the formal recommendation letters issued by the Council to its members to obtain entry visas to the United States.

Economic Event: IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Participates in the “United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit” of 2021

At the invitation of Mrs. Sanda Ojiambo, the CEO of the United Nations Global Compact, the largest community initiative for sustainable corporate development in the world, IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr Saad Naji participated in the “United National Global Compact Leaders Summit” for 2021, which was held on June 15th & 16th 2021 in New York – United States of America and broadcasted via video technology.

During the Summit, the UN Global Compact Initiative celebrated the selection of ten business leaders who have demonstrated progress and commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are doing exceptional work to advance these objectives through implementation of the ten principles of the UN Global compact in connection with human rights, environment, labor and combating corruption.

The nominations focused on professionals working on any level of the company taking part in the UN Global Compact, and the winners were selected from all continents.

The nominees were judged by a large panel that included representatives of the UN Global Compact Network of Experts, together with the former Sustainable Development Goals pioneers, representatives of academia and UN agencies, in addition to a number of sessions that discussed over two days the exacerbation of social and economic inequality, climate change, Covid-19 Pandemic and uncontrolled corruption.

It noteworthy that the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan was one of the first organizations that joined the UN Global Compact and worked on applying and implementing the ten principles of the Compact in all its procedures and adopted sustainable development and social responsibility.

 

Director of Innovation Programs of OXFAM International in Iraq Seeks Means of Cooperation with the Iraqi Business Council

The Director of Innovation Programs of Oxfam International – Iraq Office Mr. Basim Muhammad discussed means of cooperation with the Iraqi Business Council during his meeting that took place on Monday June 14th 2021 via Zoom app.

with IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji and IBC Director General in the presence of Innovation Lab Coordinator Ms. Duha Abdul Muniem.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Saad Naji welcomed the representatives of Oxfam Organization, lauding the programs of the Innovation Lab launched by Oxfam Organization to support entrepreneurial projects and empower youth and women to find jobs in Iraq.

Mr. Naji also talked about IBC entrepreneurship incubator that targets the youth category and the capacity building programs launched by the Iraqi Business Council to support the youth category, referring to the pioneering experiences presented by business incubators in other countries such as Lebanon.

IBC Director General reviewed the Council’s activities and programs on the economic, cultural, academic and humanitarian levels.

For his part, Mr. Basim Muhammad extended his thanks and appreciation on organizing the meeting and presented and overview on the Innovation Lab founded by Oxfam and the successful projects that resulted from this incubator such as “Aco” and “Yella Erbil” Projects, which work on E-marketing of the products produced by the less fortunate categories in order to enable them economically.

Iraqi Business Council Participates as Community Partner & Supporter of Fine Arts In the largest Art & Cultural Gathering Held in Jordan

Among the activities of IBC Cultural Program, the Iraqi Business Council participated as a community partner and supporter of fine arts in the largest arts and cultural gathering held in Jordan organized by “Dar Al Funoun”.

The opening of this significant event took place on Saturday June 12th 2021 at “Swefieh Village” in the presence of HRH Wijdan Al-Hasimi, HRH Rajwa Al-Ali, IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji, IBC member Dr. Amila Naji, IBC Director General and staff amidst organized presence that took into account social distancing meeting the conditions of public safety.

The event was attended by a group of artists, media and those interested in fine arts.  Over 160 artists participated in this pioneering art event and a large number of young artists were involved in this event in order to empower them and support their creations.

IBC participated in this distinguished event with a number of its collections of artworks of Iraqi artists who had earlier held art exhibitions on IBC hall.

Economic Event: IBC Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Participates in the Introductory Electronic Symposium for British Companies Specialized in the Water Sector

At the invitation of the Commercial Department of the British Embassy in Jordan, IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji participated on Tuesday June 1st 2021 in the Introductory Electronic Symposium for five British companies specializing in the water sector, which are considered among the leading companies in this field.

During the Symposium, the latest innovations and technologies developed by British companies in the water sector were reviewed and discussed.

Representatives of the companies presented an overview on their companies and the projects implemented.
