IBC Holds Important Economic Meeting

IBC held on Wednesday January 25th 2017 at Amman Grand Millennium Hotel an important economic meeting in which IBC hosted President of Iraqi Economic Council Mr. Ibrahim Al-Baghdadi and the accompanying businessmen delegation.

At the beginning of the meeting, IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji welcomed the guests and spoke of the attractive investment environment enjoyed by Jordan in terms of laws and facilities granted to the foreign investment, in addition to the political stability and security which places the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the first place for Iraqi and Arab investment.

Mr. Naji emphasized that this periodic meeting comes in continuation to the recent visit of the Jordanian Prime Minister Mr. Hani Al-Malqi to Baghdad to discuss the economic developments and means of cooperation between the two sides.

Mr. Naji further pointed out that the two sides agreed on launching a series of economic conferences and seminars on joint investment in vital projects mainly the oil projects.

On his part, President of the Iraqi Economic Council Mr. Ibrahim Al-Baghdadi pointed out that the Iraqi – Jordanian Pipeline Project represents the economic lifeline between the two countries clarifying that execution of the Pipeline Project was awarded to two Iraqi and Chinese companies.

He further added that this meeting between IBC and the Iraqi Economic Council in Amman comes in the framework of IBC plan of promoting continuous communication with external Iraqi Councils, with the Iraqi – Jordanian Business Council in the foremost.

Mr. Al-Masoudi clarified that after the recent visit of the Jordanian Prime Minister Mr. Hani Al-Malqi to Baghdad, the Iraqi Prime Minister ordered formation of an Iraqi delegation to visit Jordan to put the last touches on a strategic economic cooperation agreement between the two countries’ Business Organizations.

He pointed out that the Iraqi investor in Jordan is highly regarded and provided with facilities for productive investment, explaining that the Jordanian Public Sector enjoys wide experience which requires employment of this expertise and qualifications in the form of a joint economic cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Al-Masoudi added that the Iraqi government is very serious about opening Trebil border crossing and that work is underway on the highest levels to overcome all obstacles that hinder opening of the border crossing which is considered as lungs to Iraq and so as Jordan.

The meeting was concluded with the assembly’s agreement to set up a conference in Amman in the course of this year for the Jordanian Private Sector and Iraqi businessmen in order to put on the discussions table the obstacles preventing economic integration between the two countries,  in addition to providing businessmen of the two countries with opportunities to conclude investment partnerships. At the end of the meeting, Mr. Saad Naji presented Mr. Ibrahim Al-Baghdadi with IBC Memorial Shield as the two sides exchanged thanks on organizing this meeting.

 

IBC Holds Significant Economic Seminar for the Visiting UBS Bank

Among IBC economic activities, the Council hosted on Wednesday January 25th 2017 at IBC Hall / 1st Floor a significant Economic Seminar for the UBS Bank delegation visiting Jordan titled “Expectations of UBS Bank for Global Markets”.
At the beginning of the Seminar IBC CEO welcomed the present guests and introduced the speaker of this Seminar; President of the Investment Office for Wealth Management of UBS Bank in the United Kingdom Mr. Geoffrey Yu, who reviewed a number of important topics including expectations of growth and inflation rates for global markets and the exchange rate of foreign currencies in 2017.

He further spoke about the expectations of increase in oil and gold prices during the current year, in addition to reviewing some significant events that had impacted the global markets in 2016 such as Briton exiting the European Union (Brexit), election of the American President Mr. Donald Trump and the performance of bonds and stocks over the last year. The Seminar included some comments and questions and that were answered by Mr. Geoffrey Yu.

For his part, Mr. Hans Rolsberger President of UBS Bank Wealth Management / Middle East and North Africa (MENA) lauded IBC role for organizing this important Seminar stressing keenness of UBS Bank Management to collaborate with IBC members and provide the best services.

One IBC side, the Seminar was attended by IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary General Mr. Saad Naji and a number of IBC Board members; Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi, Mr. Muhammad Al-Jubouri, Mr. Usama Al-Quraishi and Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz and a large crowd of IBC members, representatives of IBC member companies, IBC CEO and staff.
