IBC Hosts a Cultural Gala to Mark the First Demise Anniversary of Late Writer Mahmood Al-Bayati

Under the patronage of the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Jawad Hadi Abbas, and within the activities of IBC Cultural Program (Ibdaa), a special ceremony was held on Saturday November  31st, 2015 on IBC Hall to mark the first anniversary of the demise of the prominent Iraqi writer the late Mahmoud Al-Bayati.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of the late writer’s fans and readers who specially came from all over the world to attend this event; from Beirut the Iraqi thinker Dr. Abdul Hussein Shaban, from Cairo Dr. Noori Abdul Razzaq (Chairman of the Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organization) and from London Dr. Saad Abdul Razzaq.

The event was also attended by a crowd that traveled from the Kingdom of Sweden, where the late writer had lived for many years, and a number of the late writer’s friends who traveled from Baghdad.

The celebration started with a word of welcome to the audience and introduction by Dr. Muhammad Thabit Al-Baldawi about the life of the late writer, his life in exile in different countries, about a homeland that never departed the later writer’s heart and mind, followed by impressive presentation by the late writer’s friend and companion in exile Dr. Abdul Hussein Shaban, who spoke about the late Mahmoud Al-Bayati in very elegant and moving words.

Dr. Shaban’s speech was titled: “Mahmoud Al-Bayati: The Hook of Dream and Memory Eating Us!” speaking about an arduous journey of a an intellectual in an world of estrangement and loneliness in which he possessed nothing but his intellect and pen.

Dr. Shaban reviewed in his speech the feelings of pain, hope and anger that the Iraqi intellectual feels when he finds himself forcibly banished from his homeland.

After Dr. Shaban’s speech, Al-Bayati’s nvel “The Fugitive” was launched that was published after his demise.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Baldawi gave a summary of the novel including the writer’s nostalgia to Baghdad and its alleys. After conclusion of the brief review on the late Al-Bayati’s (The Fugitive), the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Jawad Hadi Abbas opened the solo exhibition of Iraqi artist Jasmine Omar De-Zey under the title (Biased to Hope) where the artist inspired her themes from the late writer’s novels and life.

At the end of the event, IBC Vice chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji thanked the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan, members of the diplomatic corps, the crowd that participated in the Seminar and attending audience from Amman and other countries.
The ceremony was attended by IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Sadi, IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji and Board member Mr. Usama Quraishi.

On the Embassy’s side the ceremony was attended by Advisor Dr. Muhammad Al-Bayati, in addition to a large crowd of artists, writers, media people, IBC CEO and staff.

IBC Holds Significant Consultative Meeting with the New Iraq Mission President of the International Monetary Fund

IBC held a significant consultative meeting on Thursday October 29th 2015 with the new Iraq Mission President of the International Monetary Fund Mr. Christian Jose and the accompanying IMF delegation visiting Jordan consisting of Mr. Ahmed Hijazi / Economist, Miss Christian Neer / Economist and Miss Marwa Al—Naasa / Resident Representative of IMF Mission (Iraq & Yemen) at IBC Headquarters. On IBC side.

the meeting was attended by IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Sadi, IBC vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji, IBC Vice Chairman Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi, IBC Board members; Mr. Nazar Awchi, Mr. Usama Al-Quraishi, Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz, Mr. Muhammad Al-Sarraf and Board members; Mr. Kamil Alwan, Mr. Haleem Al-Hadithi, Mr. Atheer Al-Qadhi and Mr. Khalil Al-Bunnia’s representative Mr. Nazar Al-Samarrai.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Sadi welcomed the IMF Iraq Mission President and the accompanying delegation and reviewed the economic situation, investment environment in Iraq and the major challenges encountering the Private Sector.

He also tackled issues relating to IBC efforts in supporting the Strategic Project (Crude Oil Export Pipeline) between Iraq and Jordan and the key sectors IBC companies specialize in. He further provided a brief presentation on IBC activities and its achievements in all fields.
The members further discussed the mechanisms of financing projects in Iraq and the volume of revenues realized by the Private Sector companies in the past years compared with the present year.

IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji talked about the Iraqi Government’s initiative in supporting small and medium-sized projects in Iraq in a number of Sectors including Industry, Agriculture, Housing and the Private Banking Sector for which no plans or mechanisms have yet been placed as to the method of spending the said allocations.

The members discussed the rate of exchange and the mechanisms to be followed in the currency auction of the Central Bank of Iraq.
On his part, Mr. Christian Jose talked about the Mission’s tasks and elaborated that his visit to IBC was the first visit of IMF Mission in Jordan.

He also talked about prospects of the economic growth in Iraq and discussed with the members the financial management and banking policies in Iraq, expecting the growth rate for this to be (0%) with possibility of improvement in the coming years.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed on organizing consultative meetings on regular basis to familiarize themselves with the Private Sector’s view points on significant economic matters in Iraq.

Both sides exchanges thanks and appreciation on organizing this meeting.

Participation of IBC Delegation in the Bilateral Business Meeting With the Vesting Austrian Companies Delegation

Organized by the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy in Jordan and in cooperation with IBC, a bilateral business meeting was held on Tuesday October 20th 2015, in which a delegation of IBC members and the visiting Austrian Companies delegation participated.

The meeting was attended by the Austrian Commercial Advisor Ms. Isabel Schmedpower, Head of the Austrian Federal Economic Federation for Africa and Middle East Region Mr. Pierre Bronce and the Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (for Iraq and Yemen) Ms. Marwa Nisma.

On IBC side, the meeting was attended by IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Sadi, IBC Vice President and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji, Vice President Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi and Board members; Mr. Usama Al-Quraishi, Dr. Fakhri Rishan, IBC member Mr. Hassan Al Dahan and IBC CEO.

At the beginning of the meeting the Austrian Commercial Advisor Ms. Isabel Schmedpower welcomed IBC delegation and expressed keenness of the Austrian Companies to establish trade relations with their Iraqi businessmen counterparts.

On his part, IBC Chairman Dr. Sadi welcomed the visiting members of the Austrian trade mission and elaborated on the volume of Iraqi investment in the Kingdom which witnesses steady increase under the wise economic policies of His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein, and His Excellency’s continued support to Iraqi investors, provision of suitable investment environment and elimination of all obstacles facing Iraqi investors in Jordan.

He also spoke about a number of strategic projects such as the Oil and Gas Pipeline Project between Jordan and Iraq and the common interest it provides to the two neighboring countries as it provides Iraq with a new export outlet and contributing at the same time to meet Jordan’s needs of oil.

On his part, the Head of the Austrian Federal Economic Federation Mr. Pierre Bronce provided a summary on the Federation, economic indicators and fields of investment and industries in Austria.

IBC members also discussed the investment opportunities available in Iraq and the mechanism of cooperation with foreign companies.

They emphasized the necessity of exchanging visits of trade delegations from both countries that would promote trade and economic exchange in all fields.

IBC members and members of the Austrian Trade delegation presented a summary on their companies and trade activities.
When the meeting was concluded, both sides proposed a mechanism for joint cooperation through signing a joint Memorandum of Understanding, and exchanged thanks for organizing the meeting.

Participation of IBC Members in the Belgian – Jordanian – Iraqi Economic Conference

On Tuesday October 6th 2015, members of IBC; Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji, Mr. Hassan Al-Dahan, IBC CEO and Iraqi Commercial Attaché Mr. Adib Al-Kakaey participated in the Belgian – Jordanian – Iraqi Economic Conference and other joint meetings organized by Amman Chamber of Commerce and IBC in cooperation with the Belgian Embassy in Amman with the participation of seventeen distinctive Belgian companies who joined the trade delegation visiting Jordan through export promotion agencies (AWEX) and the Arab – Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce that was held in Amman InterContinental Hotel.

During the opening ceremony Mr. Hassan Al-Dahan delivered IBC speech in which he shed light on the investments of IBC members in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the safe and stable investment environment prevailing in the Kingdom under the judicious leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II which allows for attacking more investments to Jordan, calling on enhancing the economic cooperation, encouraging and motivating investment of the European companies in the Kingdom.

On her part, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Engineer Maha Al-Ali said that Jordan works on promoting economic partnership with various countries and optimization of the free trade agreements concluded with several countries bilaterally or multilaterally to contribute to increasing Jordanian exports and motivating investments in the Kingdom.
Ms. Al-Ali made reference that Jordan and the and European Union worked on exploring the possibility of expanding and promoting trade relations through extensive and deep free trade agreement negotiations in the framework of bilateral partnership agreement. The Minster added that Jordan had developed a ten-year plan for economic and social development (2025 vision) which represents a roadmap to realize economic growth and reducing unemployment and public debt.

On her part, the Belgian Trade Minister Mrs. Cecil Jodojean spoke of the importance of the meeting towards strengthening the economic and trade relations with Jordan and Iraq in all aspects.

She further elaborated that her country looks forward to the advancement of economic relations to better levels.

At the end of the ceremony Mr. Hassan Al-Dahan presented, on behalf of IBC, a memorial shield to the Belgian Minister who in turn presented a gift to IBC.

Meeting of IBC Members with the Visiting Romanian Official Delegation Accompanying the Romanian Prime Minister

IBC delegation consisting of IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Sadi, IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji, Vice Chairman Mr. Turkey Al-Qaisi, IBC Board members; Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz, Mr. Muhammad Al-Sarraf, Mr. Usama Al-Quraishi, IBC members; Dr. Ahmed Al-Jubouri and Mr. Hassan Al-Dahan met on Sunday October 4th, 2015 at Amman Grand Hayyat Hotel with the Romanian official delegation accompanying the Romanian Prime Minister consisting of the Romanian Minister of Economy, Trade & Tourism and the Minister of Agriculture.

During the meeting means of promoting the trade cooperation between Iraq and Romania were discussed such as providing the necessary facilities for IBC members to obtain the relevant entry visas to Romania.

The official delegation promised to provide IBC with the investment opportunities available in Romania in all sectors to be circulated on IBC members interested in investing in Romania.
At the end of the meeting IBC Chairman signed a Memorandum of Understanding between IBC and the Romanian Chambers of Commerce Federation.

Also, Dr. Sadi presented the visiting Romanian delegation with a souvenir on behalf of IBC.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council is based on the common desire generated by a number of elites. Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them, as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council was well-founded and blessed by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Accordingly, the approval of the competent Jordanian authorities was commended for launching the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan.

 

Opening the Joint Art Exhibition “Art & Civilization” Hosted by Anamel Group To Revive Mesopotamia

Within the activities of IBC Cultural Program (Ibdaa), Advisor Muhammad Al-Bayati opened on Saturday evening October 3rd 2015 on behalf of the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan the joint art exhibition titled “Art & Culture” hosted by Anamel Group to revive Mesopotamian civilization in the presence of a large number of the Iraqi community in Jordan, artists, literati, academics and media personnel.

On IBC side, the ceremony was attended by IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji, Vice Chairman Mr. Turkey Al-Qaissi, IBC Board members; Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz and Dr. Fakhri Rishan andnIBC members; Mr. and Mrs. Hassan Al-Dahan and artist Yada Al-Obaidi, in addition to IBC CEO and staff on IBC HALL (Zain) on the First Floor.
During the opening ceremony, Advisor Muhammad Al-Bayati toured the exhibition accompanied by the participating artists; Lina Al-Nassiri, Muhannad Al-Daoud, Firyal Al-Omari, May Al-Nuaimi, Raouf Al-Attar and Nadia Al-Azzawi to familiarize themselves with the exhibited paintings which embodied the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia “Sumer and Babylon”.

At the conclusion of the ceremony artist Lina Al-Nassiri, participant and organizer of the exhibition, presented the artists who took part in the ceremony with creativity shields.

She also presented, in the name of Anamel Group to revive the Mesopotamian timeless civilization, a memorial shield to Advisor Muhammad Al-Bayati and IBC Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Saad Naji in recognition and appreciation of the efforts exerted by IBC to support Iraqi artists.
