Economic Event: The Second Follow-Up Meeting Organized by the Iraqi Business Council & The Parliamentary Economy & Investment Committee

On Sunday February 6th 2022 the Second Follow-Up meeting was held to address hardships facing Iraqi investors, which was organized by the Iraqi Business Council and the Parliamentary Economy and Investment Committee in the Jordanian House of Representatives.

On behalf of IBC, the meeting was attended by IBC Deputy Chairman and Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji, IBC Board member and Head of IBC Energy Sector Committee Engineer Mekhi Al-Faiz.

IBC Board member and Head of the Financial & Banking Sector Committee Mr. Hassan Nasir Al-Lami and IBC members; Mr. Ahmad Al-Amili, Dr. Hassanein Al-Ibrahimi, representative of IBC member Mr. Nazar Awchi and IBC Director General.

On the Jordanian House of Representatives side, the meeting was attended by Head of the Parliamentary Economy & Investment Committee Dr. Kheir Abu Saeilek.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council is based on the common desire generated by a number of elites. Those who are Iraqi investors and businessmen on the territory of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan unanimous in the importance of creating economic reference for them.

as well as for those who wish to join them in order to maximize Iraq’s investment in Jordan, as well as to contribute actively to Iraq’s construction and reconstruction.

The idea of establishing the Iraqi Business Council was well-founded and blessed by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Accordingly, the approval of the competent Jordanian authorities was commended for launching the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan.

Jordan Investment Minister Eng. Kheiri Amr Meets with Iraqi Business council Chairman and Members at Investment Ministry Headquarters

Jordan Investment Minister Engineer Kheiri Amr met on Thursday December 9th 2021 at the Investment Ministry Headquarters with the Iraqi Business Council Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi, Deputy Chairman & Secretary General Dr. Saad Naji and a number of IBC Board member; Mr. Mekki Al-Faiz and Mr. Tariq Al-Hassan, along with IBC members; Mr. Ahmad Al_Amili, Mr. Aqeel Al-Hadi, Mr. Abdul Rahman Thabit Safar, Mrs. Leilas Asfour and IBC Director General.

During the meeting, a set of observations and suggestions were discussed to enhance investments of Iraqi investors in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The Investment Minister also stressed keenness of the Jordanian Government to provide all necessary facilities to businessmen and investors in Jordan and communicate with them on permanent basis to learn about any observations relating to the progress of their businesses and investments in Jordan to overcome any obstacles they may encounter.

His Excellency the Investment Minister reviewed the mechanism of improving investment and developing investment attraction, pointing to the efforts exerted by various official authorities to improve the investment reality in the Kingdom and create an appropriate and attractive climate for investment, stressing that finding appropriate solutions to the challenges encountering investors has always been on the top priorities of the Jordanian government under Royal Directives.

For his part, Chairman of the Iraqi Business Council Dr. Saedi thanked the Jordanian government for its efforts to provide all facilities to the Iraqi investor, and the efforts exerted by the Investment Ministry to continue searching for solutions to the obstacles and challenges encountering the Iraqi investors.

Dr. Saedi tackled some of the challenges facing the Iraqi investor, which he affirmed that finding solutions would contribute to the flow of even more Iraqi investments to Jordan.

IBC Deputy Chairman Dr. Saad Naji presented a working paper covering all obstacles on Iraqi investment in the Kingdom “reality and challenges” which covered the volume of Iraqi investment in Jordan in the investment sectors on the obstacles facing the Iraqi investor with proposals covering solutions.

At the end of the meeting, the Investment Minister promised to study the suggestions provided by IBC members to facilitate their work in Jordan, and the delegation representing IBC members expressed thanks and appreciation to the Investment Minister for holding the meeting.

Economic Event: IBC Board Member Mr. Louay Al-Saeed Represents the Iraqi Business Council at Rafidain

Board member of the Iraqi Business Council Mr. Louay Al-Saeed participated, as speaker on behalf of and representative of IBC Chairman Dr. Majid Saedi, in the Sixth Session of Rafidain Forum for Dialogue 2021, titled “A White Paper : Stage Requirements and Reform Path”, where Mr. Al-Saeed discussed the private sector’s vision of the White Paper, describing it as a paper for government reform and the extent of its seriousness to overcome the obstacles facing the Iraqi private sector, development plans and strategies, stressing the importance of applying the contents in the White Paper and applying the required government reforms, and the need for an independent national and government will.

Mr. Al-Saeed also talked about the lingering of several projects due to the lack of funding and government support. On the private sector’s views of the future prospects and partnership projects between the public and private sectors, especially they are limited to the ports and cement industries sectors Mr. Al-Saeed responded as saying: “the government must find the correct mechanism for the Iraqi private sector to benefit from, in addition to development plans and a clear investment chart, especially since many government projects have employment inflation, which fact prevents the private sector from investing in these projects, in addition to a number of measures imposed by the government on the private sector, heavily weighing on this sector, add to this the lack of confidence and commitment on part of the government, which reflected on the local and foreign investment leading to the failure of investment in Iraq”.

The Iraqi Minister of Planning Mr. Khaled Bettal Najim talked about the efforts exerted by the Ministry to extract the licensing rounds from the investment budget, and the Ministry of Planning’s keenness to work on the White Paper – Plan B. The Minister also stressed that Iraq will soon reach the highest population increase.

The Session was attended by Dr. Hussein Latif Kadim Al-Zubaidi / CEO of Rafidain Centre for Dialogue (RCD) / Session Chairman, Dr. Adnan Abid Khudeir Al-Zurfi / member of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waili / Head of the Border Ports Authority and Mr. Ihsan Shemran Al-Yasiri / Central Bank Deputy Governor. The Forum was also attended by IBC member Engineer Turkey Al-Qaissi.

The Vice President and Secretary of the Council visited the headquarters of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Jordan and a meeting with the Turkish Ambassador Mr. Murat Karagöz

The Vice President and Secretary of the Iraqi Business Council, Mr. Saad Naji, and the General Director of the Council visited the headquarters of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Jordan on Sunday 10/07/2018, and they were received by the Turkish Ambassador Mr. Murat Karaguz, the Commercial Counselor Mrs. Neil Gökçe and the Third Secretary at the Embassy Mr. Muhammad Murat.

During the meeting, the Turkish ambassador spoke about his interest in developing ways of cooperation with Iraqi investors and businessmen affiliated with the Iraqi Business Council in Jordan, reviewing the new facilities provided by the Turkish government to investors about the required conditions and financial criteria for obtaining Turkish citizenship, which is the purchase of a property worth two hundred fifty thousand US dollars Provided not to sell it for a period of three years or a fixed investment of not less than five hundred thousand dollars, or provide job opportunities for fifty Turkish citizens, or deposit five hundred thousand dollars in Turkish banks.

Mr. Saad Naji spoke during the meeting about the volume of Iraqi investment in Jordan, the achievements made by the Iraqi Business Council in all fields, and the council’s desire to increase cooperation between member companies and Turkish companies, and to organize the exchange of commercial delegations.

For his part, His Excellency the Turkish Ambassador affirmed his keenness to continue providing facilities to council members, including multiple visas for a period of two years for council members and their families.

At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to organize a visit for His Excellency the Turkish Ambassador to meet with members of the Council interested in investing in Turkey.

The visit of the Ambassador of the United States of America Alice Wells to the Iraqi Business Council

The Ambassador of the United States of America to Jordan Alice Wells and the Deputy Political Counselor Peter Shay and the Deputy Economic Attaché Ryan Palo visited the Ethnic Business Council on Monday 25/08/2015.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Iraqi Business Council welcomed Dr. Majed Al-Saadi, the ambassador and her accompanying delegation, reviewed the latest developments in Iraq at the economic level and the most important challenges facing investors and businessmen and the available investment opportunities in Iraq.

Dr. Majid Al-Saadi also spoke about the size of the investments of the Council members in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in all sectors and praised the efforts of the Jordanian government in supporting Iraqi investors in the Kingdom.

The members of the Council presented an overview of the achievements and facilities made by the Council and its continuous activities in support of the Iraqi community residing in Jordan in the economic, social and humanitarian fields.

For her part, US Ambassador Wells spoke of her desire to increase trade and economic cooperation with Iraq.

Ambassador Wells also heard during the meeting the members ’evaluation of the Iraqi government’s performance in economic reform, and stressed its desire to establish commercial and investment partnerships and to activate cooperation between American, Iraqi and Jordanian companies in various available fields.

The meeting was attended by the Council’s Vice President and Secretary of the Council Mr. Saad Naji, Vice President Mr. Turki Al-Qaisi, and a number of members of the administrative body, and they are: Eng. Jalal Al-Kaoud, Professor Makki Al-Faiz, Professor Ali Ghaleb, Mrs. Sunan Al-Khafaji and a number of members of the Council, namely: Professor Raed Al-Bayati, Professor Omar Al-Saadi and Professor Muhammad Al-Qaisi.

Celebration of the signing of the renewal of the Schengen agreement with the French embassy

Members of the Iraqi Business Council met with His Excellency the French Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Caroline Duma, at the headquarters of the Iraqi Business Council.

At the beginning of the meeting, welcomed d. Majed Al-Saadi, the ambassador and the guests, presented an overview of the activities of the Iraqi Business Council and the achievements it had achieved since its establishment.

A meeting with a number of representatives of French companies present in Jordan, and then organizing an Iraqi trade delegation visit to France to meet with French companies interested in entering the Iraqi market, and then discussed the renewal of the Schengen agreement that the council concluded two years ago with the French embassy in Jordan

As the two parties agreed to start the procedures for reviewing the terms of the agreement to be signed by the two parties, and at the end of the meeting, each of Dr. Majed Al-Saadi and the Greek Ambassador thanked him for this meeting and the President of the Council presented a souvenir to the French Ambassador.
